Hamdaratu envisions a world where all children, irrespective of their socio-economic background, have access to quality education. Being the only child out of seven to attain a university degree, and coming from a community where education (especially girl child education) is not a priority to parents, Hamdaratu is passionate about guiding and helping children stay in school to unleash their full potentials. In the long term, she would like to be a mentor and coach to young people to nurture and inspire them towards the achievement of their career goals and personal development. That is why she runs the What about Them (WAT) Foundation, which supports young children in deprived communities with educational tools and mentorship to stay in school. With 150 students benefitting from WAT's mentorship program and 70 students benefitting from financial support to stay in school, she also educates stakeholders and parents of beneficiaries on the importance of allowing children to receive formal education. Hamdaratu hopes that with the support from Empowered To Educate, her foundation can reach its goal of mentoring 2,000 young people and satisfying the educational needs of 500 students in deprived communities in the next two years. Hamdaratu holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in French and Sociology from the University of Ghana, Legon and currently works as a Core Trainer with CAMFED in the Builsa North district of the Upper East region where she mentors young girls in the CAMFED Association network and guides them in community service activities.
